Maharashtra CM chairs high level security meet
As the India-Pakistan border heats up following a brutal terror strike in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam that left 26 mostly tourists dead, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis convened a high-level internal security review in Mumbai on Friday.

In the wake of what the Indian Army described as a “wave” of missile and drone assaults from across the border, Fadnavis emphasized that Maharashtra, especially coastal Mumbai, remains on high alert. “Be it the police, Coast Guard, or Navy everyone is on full alert. War book protocols are in place, and standard operating procedures have been activated,” he told reporters.

The urgency of the situation was underscored just hours earlier, when Indian forces successfully thwarted multiple Pakistani drone and missile attacks along the western front. Pakistan also unleashed a barrage of ceasefire violations (CFVs) along the Line of Control (LoC), prompting a sharp military response. A video shared by the Indian Army on X showed a Pakistani military post being destroyed.

Though Maharashtra doesn’t share a land border with Pakistan, its coastline and especially Mumbai has long been seen as a potential target. Memories of the devastating 26/11 attacks still loom large, and since then, a robust three-layered coastal security system involving the Indian Navy, Coast Guard, and Coastal Police has been established. The state regularly conducts security drills to stay prepared.

Security sources said Pakistan attempted to hit 15 Indian military installations this week across states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. Cities targeted ranged from Srinagar and Pathankot to Chandigarh and Bhuj.

In a dramatic counteroffensive dubbed Operation Sindoor, India responded by targeting and neutralizing multiple terror infrastructure facilities deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), signaling a strong and strategic retaliation.

With the security machinery on edge and leaders like Fadnavis holding fort on the home front, India appears braced for any escalation.
