Janhvi Kapoor was named after a character from her mother’s film Judaai, which was released in February 1997, just before Janhvi Kapoor was born. The film was produced by Boney Kapoor and starred Sridevi and Anil Kapoor. It is said that Boney Kapoor and Sridevi named their first child Janhvi because they adored the name of Urmila Matondkar’s character in the movie.
The late veteran actress Sridevi, Kapoor’s mother, wanted Janhvi to become a doctor. In a previous interview with Indian Express, Kapoor revealed that Sridevi was not thrilled about her daughter’s career following in her footsteps when she indicated her interest in entering the film business. “When I was a kid, she really wanted me to become a doctor”, the 24-year-old actress said.
She was introduced to Kathak during the shooting of Dhadak, her first film. In an interview with Forbes, Kapoor revealed, “I have always been very fond of dance. I remember during the shoot of Dhadak, I did Kathak for a couple of months. After Dhadak, I did it for few months. I have been in and out of Kathak classes very sporadically, mainly because of my schedule, but I have always found it most therapeutic. The energy of being in a classroom when you are doing something as an artist, to be practicing… it always appeals to me.”
Janhvi enjoys writing poetries
In addition to being a literature enthusiast, Kapoor also enjoys writing poetry, as Ishaan Khatter disclosed during the Dhadak movie’s promotions. In response, Kapoor said, “It’s quite healing. You saw my heavily annotated copy of the Dhadak script.” During the 2018 International Film Festival of India in Goa, the actor also performed a poem she had written herself in memory of her late mother, Sridevi.
