According to data released on Monday, Hyundai Motor and Kia’s combined overseas production, including that of India, exceeded 3.68 million units in 2023, marking the highest output since the Covid-19 pandemic’s start.
Media report claims that Hyundai Motor and Kia, the top automakers in South Korea, manufactured 3,678,831 vehicles at 13 overseas manufacturing locations last year, based on data from the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association.
Kia produced 1,435,762 vehicles in the United States, China, Slovakia, Mexico, and India, whereas Hyundai produced 2,243,069 vehicles in eight countries: the United States, India, China, Turkey, Czech Republic, Brazil, Indonesia, and Singapore. The total output from last year increased by 2.9 percent as compared to 2022.
Additionally, it was their highest tally since 2019 prior to the pandemic in four years. India produced 1.08 million cars followed by the United States, China and Slovakia, which counted 727,000, 394,249, and 352,240 automobiles manufactured, respectively.
China’s steady drop in production stood out within the overall trajectory of production growth. In 2016, the collective production of the Chinese enterprises was 1.83 million units.
Another notable thing about Russia was that, despite having a production facility there, Hyundai Motor did not make a single car there in the previous year. From 2012 to 2022, Hyundai produced more than 200,000 units a year in Russia.
After the Ukrainian War broke out, production abruptly stopped in 2022, falling to about 40,000 units. In Singapore, where it established the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore, the company built 595 vehicles for the first-time last year.
