India Reclaims 297 Stolen Antiquities
In a major victory for India’s cultural heritage, the country has successfully brought back 297 stolen antiquities from the United States this year, bringing the total number of repatriated artefacts from the U.S. to 588.
Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, shared this update in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha. The recoveries have been made under the US-India Cultural Property Agreement (CPA), which aims to curb the illicit trade of Indian antiquities. While the agreement does not have fixed timelines or targets, it plays a crucial role in preventing the smuggling of cultural treasures abroad.

Resurgence of Ancient Sects During Kumbh Mela
Shekhawat also addressed an intriguing question about the revival of ancient sects, particularly during the Kumbh Mela, one of the largest spiritual gatherings in the world. He explained that this historic festival serves as a platform for ancient sects, religious organizations, and spiritual leaders to reconnect with devotees, showcasing centuries-old traditions and practices.

The resurgence of these sects is fueled by growing interest in cultural and spiritual heritage, along with an increasing quest for deeper meaning in modern times. Social media and religious tourism have further amplified awareness, making this revival a key part of India’s evolving cultural landscape.
