A 45-year-old woman lost her life, and 23 other passengers sustained injuries when a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) electric bus collided with a metro pillar in West Delhi on Monday morning, according to police reports.

The Punjabi Bagh police station received a PCR call at 7:42 am reporting a bus accident near Shivaji Park Metro Station on Rohtak Road, stated Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vichitra Veer.

Initial investigations indicated that the DTC electric bus, operating on the route between Mangolpuri and Anand Vihar, had crashed into a metro pillar, DCP Veer noted. The sudden braking of the bus caused an auto-rickshaw to collide with it from behind. As a result, 24 passengers, including the bus driver and conductor, were injured, he added.

The 45-year-old female passenger was declared dead upon arrival at Maharaja Agrasen Hospital, and another passenger, a 55-year-old man, is currently in the ICU, according to the DCP.
Among the 23 injured passengers, 14 are receiving treatment at Maharaja Agrasen Hospital, while the remaining 10 were transported to Acharya Bhikshu Hospital in Moti Nagar.

An FIR has been filed under the applicable sections of law at the Punjabi Bagh police station. A crime team has been dispatched to the scene for investigation. The cause of the accident will be determined based on the crime team’s findings and a mechanical inspection of the vehicle, DCP Veer explained.

A DTC official asserted that the bus was traveling in its designated lane at the time of the accident.
