With an initial investment of $11 million, Vivek Sinha, the former Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Unacademy, has started a new business called Beyond Odds Technologies. Lightspeed and Matrix Partners India lead the seed fundraising round.

Along with other angel investors, including Ritesh Agarwal (founder of OYO), Gaurav Munjal (founder of Unacademy), Mayank Kumar (founder of Upgrad), Ramakant Sharma (founder of Livspace), Abhishek Goyal (founder of Tracxn), Rohit MA (founder of CloudNine Hospitals), Sumer Juneja (Managing Partner at SoftBank), Puneet Kumar (Managing Director at Steadview Capital), and Abhinav Sinha (COO of OYO), InnoVen Capital, a Temasek subsidiary, and Alteria Capital also participated in the round.

The Bengaluru-based firm caters to the grey-collar employment segment with employability-led training, certification, and recruitment services. It links students with potential employers.
The company is creating a higher education brand called Emversity. It will open its first center in Bengaluru on April 20 and open six more by June in locations including Hyderabad, Delhi, Nagpur, Kochi, and Ranchi. According to a statement from the corporation, these facilities will provide certification courses in collaboration with universities as well as bachelor’s degree programs, including nursing.

According to the corporation, classes designed to fulfill healthcare industry skill needs will be part of Emversity’s first cohort. The university has partnerships with organizations such as Fortis Hospitals and Core Diagnostics to facilitate internships and job placements.
After three years of service, Vivek Sinha announced his departure from Unacademy in August 2023. Sinha had previously served as Oyo’s business head from April 2018 to September 2020.

Alongside chief marketing officer Karan Shroff, chief of staff Abhyudayay Rana, and chief financial officer Subramanian Ramachandran, Unacademy had a number of high-profile departures, including Vivek Sinha’s resignation. Shroff has also founded a company LightFury Games, which has finished a $8.5 million seed round backed by Blume Ventures.
