Filmmaker and director Ram Gopal Varma seems to be facing escalating troubles. In a significant development, a Mumbai court has sentenced him to three months in jail in a check bounce case. This verdict comes seven years after the case was filed in 2018. The court has also issued a non-bailable warrant against the filmmaker.

According to a report by Telangana Today, Ram Gopal Varma has been found guilty under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act. In addition to serving three months in jail, he has been directed to compensate the complainant with Rs 3.75 lakh. If he fails to pay the compensation within three months, he will be required to spend an additional three months in jail.

Reacting to the news on his social media account on X (formerly Twitter), Ram Gopal Varma clarified the matter. He wrote, “Regarding the news about me and the Andheri Court, I want to clarify that this is a seven-year-old case involving Rs 2.38 lakh with a former employee of mine. My lawyers are handling it, and since the matter is sub judice, I cannot comment further.”

In another post, the filmmaker added, “This is not about the settlement of Rs 2.38 lakh. It’s about refusing to succumb to exploitation under the guise of creating disputes. That’s all I can say for now.”

The case dates back to 2018, when a company named Shree filed a complaint against Ram Gopal Varma‘s firm. In 2022, the director was granted bail after furnishing a personal bond and security deposit of Rs 5,000.
