Prior to pursuing a career in acting, Deepika Padukone worked as a model. She was chosen as the 2005 “Kingfisher Model of the Year” and included in the Kingfisher Calendar. She debuted at Lakmé Fashion Week the same year, walking the ramp for designer Suneet Varma.
Music that made her career
Very few know that Deepika got her big break from Naam Hai Tera music video in 2006, and man behind her launch was Himesh Reshammiya, the songwriter and music director. The celebrity was discovered by Farah Khan, the director of Om Shanti Om, who then chose to cast her opposite Shah Rukh Khan and Arjun Rampal as Shanti Priya. Deepika had earlier thanked Himesh Reshammiya for providing her the big opportunity when she went to promote ‘Chhapaak’ on the sets of the reality show Indian Idol 11 back in 2019.

Many people believe that Deepika Padukone made her acting debut with 2007’s Om Shanti Om, directed by Farah Khan. But it’s not truth she actually made her screen debut with the Kannada film Aishwarya. The romantic drama, directed by Indrajit Lankesh was released on September 15, 2006.

Not many people know that Saawariya (2007), directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, starring Ranbir Kapoor, was supposed to be Deepika’s cinematic debut.
