Hemant Soren, the former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and leader of the JMM who was arrested, arrived to the parliament on Monday to vote in favor of the government led by Champai Soren. Hemant Soren, the executive president of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), has been granted permission to take part in the floor test by a special court in Ranchi.
The Enforcement Directorate detained Hemant Soren on January 31 in connection with a money laundering investigation involving a purported land swindle. On February 2, the court remanded Soren to ED custody for a period of five days.
In order to attend the floor test on Monday, over forty MLAs from the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and its coalition allies arrived back in Ranchi late on Sunday evening from Hyderabad.
It is to be noted that in the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly, the JMM holds 29 seats, its ally Congress has 17, while RJD and CPI (ML) have one seat each. This comes to a total of 48. The All Jharkhand Students’ Union, the BJP’s ally, has three MLAs, while the opposition group is supported by three more MLAs. This shows BJP has 26 MLAs overall.
