Kolhapur, Maharashtra – A village fair in Shivnakwadi took an unexpected turn when over 250 people fell ill due to suspected food poisoning after consuming ‘kheer’ served as ‘prasad’ on Tuesday.

According to police officials from Kurundwad, attendees of the fair began experiencing symptoms such as diarrhoea, nausea, and fever by Wednesday morning. While most of the affected individuals received treatment and were discharged, around 50 people remain hospitalized in Shirol. Fortunately, all of them are reported to be in stable condition.

“Most of those who fell sick claimed to have eaten the ‘kheer,’ but several food stalls were also present at the fair. We are investigating the exact cause of the outbreak,” said a police official.

Authorities have collected food samples from the event and sent them to a forensic lab to confirm whether food poisoning was responsible for the mass illness. Meanwhile, locals remain on high alert, hoping for answers soon.
