With the addition of AI teacher Iris, a school in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, is embracing an innovative approach to education. Iris, created in partnership with Makerlabs Edutech, is the state’s and probably the nation’s first humanoid robot teacher.
The Kaduvayil Thangal Charitable Trust’s KTCT Higher Secondary School is the source of this idea. Iris is a component of the 2021 NITI Aayog project Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL), which aims to increase extracurricular activities in schools.
There was excitement last month when Iris was unveiled. A video that Makerlabs posted on Instagram demonstrates the possibilities of this AI teacher that speaks multiple languages. Iris is capable of responding to intricate queries in a variety of topic areas, offering individualized voice support and promoting interactive educational opportunities. In addition, Iris has wheels for increased mobility.
“At the forefront of innovation, Makerlabs Edutech is proud to unveil our latest creation, IRIS – the AI Teacher Robot, poised to redefine the learning landscape as we know it. IRIS embodies our commitment to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, inspiring confidence in more groundbreaking innovations to come,” the caption of the post read.
This development represents a major change in Kerala’s educational environment. Iris has the ability to engage students more in their education, personalize their learning, and accommodate a variety of learning preferences.
Iris offers a look into the future of education, where artificial intelligence will likely play a supportive role in the classroom, even though the long-term effects are yet unclear.
