The parent firm of numerous well-known dating apps, including Tinder and Hinge, Match Group, has announced today that Yoel Roth, the former head of trust and safety at Twitter, is joining the company. Yoel, who announced the change on LinkedIn, is now the vice president of trust and safety for Match Group.

After working for seven and a half years at Twitter (now X), Roth left the firm after just two weeks under Elon Musk’s direction. In an effort to harm Roth’s reputation, Musk had assaulted him with unfounded allegations.
Following the publication of the ‘Twitter Files’, a set of confidential records that revealed how Roth and other Twitter officials managed content moderation, Roth too experienced harassment. And consequently, Roth was forced to leave the company.

Now, Roth is bringing his security and trust experience to Match’s dating app family, which includes Plenty of Fish, Hinge, Tinder, Match.com, OkCupid, and more. Despite the safety preserves that dating apps have built in, there is still a lot of toxic behavior on them, and not everyone believes in them.
A Pew Research study revealed that Americans are split on whether online dating is a safe way to meet new people, as the number of adults who earlier believe online dating is generally safe has decreased since 2019, from 53% to 48%.

In an interview with Wired, Roth who completed his doctoral dissertation on dating app security and privacy said that he immediately leaped at the chance to join Match Group, calling his new position a ‘dream job.’ According to Roth, he will be in charge of developing standards and policies for all of the company’s applications.
