India will be led by Rohit Sharma in the men’s T20 World Cup in 2024. At a media gathering in Rajkot on Wednesday, BCCI secretary Jay Shah stated the same. He also added that Rahul Dravid will continue to lead the team until the global tournament.
Rohit will be leading India in the T20 World Cup for the second time; he did the same in 2022. India was defeated by eventual champions England in the semi-final of the Australia-hosted tournament. After that, Rohit did not participate in any Twenty20 Internationals.
However, he was called back to spearhead the charge against Afghanistan in January 2024. The selectors’ decision appeared to indicate that Rohit will almost definitely lead the team in the June World Cup, which will be held in the USA and the West Indies. Shah reaffirmed the same today.
Meanwhile, After the ODI World Cup final in 2017, Dravid’s contract expired, however he was invited to stay on as part of the support staff for the December–January tour to South Africa without having his contract finalized. However, Shah claimed that before deciding to hire Dravid, they had had a preliminary conversation.

But according to Shah, the BCCI will have a couple more rounds of talks before the event. “I will speak with him whenever there is time, there are back-to-back series happening right now,” Shah added. “They were in South Africa, followed by a [T20I] series against Afghanistan, and they are currently in England.” We had absolutely no opportunity to talk in between.”
